Traditional Indigenous Dance
Embark on a spiritual journey into a world steeped in the Dreaming,
with traditional dancers who share their spiritual, cultural and
artistic identity in deeply inspiring performances. Artists include
Djilpin Arts Dancers, Red Flag Dancers, Larrakia Dancers and Injalak
Dancers.
Red Flag Dancers
Red Flag Dancers are from the remote Arnhem Land community of Numbulwar.
Their dance is based on their story of the Red Flag. This story
and dance was a feature of the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Sydney
Olympic Games.
The Red Flag Dancers present a spectacular sight and are some of
the most gifted and talented dancers from the Top End. They have
great pride in showing their culture to the outside world and have
amazed audiences with the colour and vitality of their performances.
Djilpin Arts Dancers
Corroboree is one of the oldest forms of story telling for Australia’s
Indigenous people – the songs and dances celebrate nyingiya,
the spirit of the people.
The Djilpin Arts dancers from the Wugularr Community perform like
no other troupe – they draw on the soul of Arnhem Land and
dance from the heart, telling stories of
ancestral lands that have been crafted and handed down over generations.
