GREAT FENCES OF AUSTRALIA
Creating ethereal music with fences and violin bows.
Many people look at a fence and don’t think much about it,
but Jon Rose and Hollis Taylor, two virtuoso violinist/composers
of Great Fences of Australia, see giant musical string instruments
covering a continent.
With their violin bows, they have been playing and recording the
great system of fences that cross the Australian Outback, including
the famous Dingo Fence and the Rabbit-Proof Fence.
The images, the stories, and the sounds of the fences become a
part of an installation while the artists perform live with a re-created
section of fence.
Their performances are astonishing for the quality of sound and
the special presence these two bring to their work.
This project has been assisted by the Federal Government through
the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
