Film and Television Workshops
The following Film and Television workshops are presented by the
Australian Guild of Screen Composers.
All film and television workshops are FREE, open to all and complimentary
lunches are provided. All workshops will be held at the Theatrette,
Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.

ABC TV Briefing
ABC TV will be giving a briefing on development opportunities within
the ABC network.

How to Build a Film and TV Industry in a Small State
As the first Director of Film Development at the Australian Film
Commission Lynn Gailey oversaw and supported the development and
production of Proof
Romper, The Piano, Kiss or Kill and Shine.
Currently the Policy Manager at the Media Entertainment Arts Alliance,
Gailey will discuss strategies to build a local film and television
industry. Topics include securing contracts for corporate videos
and advertisements with local government departments; working with
union agreements; developing professional relationships and how
to build on local strengths.
Lynn Gailey: Currently the Federal Policy Officer
at the Media Arts & Entertainment Alliance (MEAA) Lynn is former
head of Film Development at the Australian Film Commission, she
started as a script assistant and has extensive experience in the
film and television industry having worked as a first assistant
director, production manager, line producer and consultant to state
funding agencies. As the first Director of Film Development at the
Australian Film Commission she oversaw and supported the development
and production of Proof , Romper, The Piano, Kiss or Kill and Shine.
She is currently on the Australian Film Commission’s Industry Advisory
Panel on International Co-Productions.

Making the Short Film
In association with the Australian Film, Television and Radio School
National Screening Tour, Steve Pasvolsky will cover the short film,
from idea to screen. Topics will include writing, producing, directing
and marketing.
This will be an invaluable workshop giving practical advice to
all short film makers. Steve's best known short film Inja, which
was nominated for an Academy Award in 2003 will be screened at the
workshop.
Steve Paslovsky: A graduate of the Australian
Film Television & Radio School, Steve's short film Inja received
a prestigious Academy Award nomination for Short Film. He recently
completed his first feature film.

The Collaborative Process
This year, Rolf de Heer is back and with him he brings his award-winning
team. In a case study of the collaborative filmmaking process (led
by de Heer), together they'll discuss editing (with Tania Nehme),
cinematography (with Ian Jones), music (with Graham Tardif) and
the increasingly important area of multimedia (with Molly Reynolds).
Other topics to be covered include writing, producing, directing
and marketing.
Rolf de Heer is a writer, producer and director of feature films,
including 'The Tracker', 'Alexandra's Project', 'Dingo', 'Bad Boy
Bubby' and 'The Quiet Room'. He is the only Australian director
to have had films selected at each of the three major international
film festivals, Cannes, Venice and Berlin. His current project is
'Ten Canoes', which he is co-directing with David Gulpilil.

A screening of Bad Boy Bubby in association with Big Screen is being
held at the Deckchair Cinema on the evening of Saturday, 14 August.
