'Batari' - Taiko Trio

Batari is a Brisbane based contemporary Taiko (Japanese Percussion) ensemble of three performers who blend their wealth of musical and theatrical experience into hybrid forms of contemporary performance. Batari present two dynamic and creative performances:

Plate Tectonics - Performance 1
Batari recreate the landscape from Stone Age to Cyber Age using a variety of percussion, wind instruments and multimedia equipment, to produce a powerful experience where acoustics,
electronics and evocative imagery collide.

Traditional Japanese Taiko Drumming - Performance 2
Moto Niwa is a Japanese Taiko drumming master with thirty years experience.

His performances harness the dynamic energy and carefully controlled raw
power of Taiko Drumming. Moto is joined by Taiko drummer Tom Mikula
who is also a versatile percussionist in his own right, and Francis Gilfedder
whose finesse on a wide array of Asian wind instruments including Shakuhachi, Khean (Lao mouth organ), Indonesian Suling Flutes and Native American flute lends an ethereal colour to the blend of Asian percussion.
